“In these holy days, let us stand before the Crucified One and let us ask for the grace to live in order to serve. May we reach out to those who are suffering and those most in need. May we not be concerned about what we lack, but what good we can do for others.” Pope Francis
The above words by Pope Francis seem to be written with the Christ Child Society in mind. Even though most of us have postponed our programs as we focus on keeping ourselves, families and neighbors healthy, we still look forward to serving those in need in our communities. Many have asked what can be done; find a need and fill it as Mary Virginia Merrick liked to say (yes, our members are those people). You have jumped into the 21st century of video conference calls and formed drop off lines for diapers and food to deliver to those in need. I suggest that, after the quarantine is lifted, we look for new opportunities to help. These services may take on a different look than what we have been used to and maybe temporary in nature. I suggest you use this time to contact your local agencies to find out how you may be able to partner on an “after corona” program. Let us also take this time to get ready to go full speed with our current programs once we are free to do so. I know that after being cooped inside, we will all be raring to get out there with renewed energy and purpose.
Let us also remember to check in with our members who may be feeling lonelier and more vulnerable at this time. A short phone call to say hello may help to brighten the day. And to those members who are still working (or have family members who are working) in hospitals, grocery stores or any other necessary sectors, please know that you are all our heroes and we thank you! If we can be of any support, just let us know.
Yes, this season of Lent has been unprecedented. No services or extended family activities. And yet, we still will celebrate... “Because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world”.
Happy Easter to all!
