From Unimaginable Loss, A Mission Is Born
There is a kind of courage the world rarely understands — the courage not to be destroyed by suffering, but to be transformed by it into something that transforms others.
Born and raised in the Cleveland area, Rachel Muha made her home in Westerville, Ohio, where she and her husband raised their two sons. From the beginning, Rachel's life was one of quiet, faithful service.
But in 1999, Rachel's world was shattered when her younger son, Brian and his college roommate were violently murdered. Brian was a bright, caring 18-year-old from Westerville who had his life ahead of him — and had wanted to be a doctor to work with underserved children.
Most of us would have been undone. Rachel chose a different path.
Through her act of forgiveness and her desire to bring good out of evil, Rachel, her son Chris, and other family members started The Brian Muha Memorial Foundation — and in 2005, she opened The Run The Race Club, an after-school center for inner-city children and young adults on Columbus' west side.
What began as an after-school program has become a lifeline, helping young people and their families know the love of God and the love of others.
