Barbara Greene/Omaha
Raised on a Nebraska farm as one of eight children, Barb’s parents instilled in her from an early age the importance of a strong sense of compassion, service, and responsibility, values she continues to carry and utilize to this day.
After graduating from Creighton University in Omaha, Barb met her husband, Chip, and began raising their family of five children. As her family grew, so did her commitment to serving children and families in the Omaha community. She has served on the Guild boards of the Omaha Children’s Museum, Child Saving Institute, Catholic Charities, the Opera Omaha Cotillion, the Omaha Symphony Debutante Ball, and other community organizations. She also served on the Total Board at St. Margaret Mary Parish, including one term as President, and has held several leadership positions at her current parish, Christ the King.
Barb was introduced to the Christ Child Society through her parish friends more than twenty years ago. Since then, she has served the organization in numerous capacities, including chairing the annual luncheon and serving on the Omaha Board from 2020 to 2025. During her time on the CCSO board, she chaired the Scholarship Committee for four years during a period of both significant financial and participation of scholars and schools growth and assisted with the Layette program. In each role, she sought new ways to connect organizations and individuals with the mission of Christ Child.
Barb’s dedication to volunteer service has been recognized with the U.S. President Volunteer Service Award, which she received three times. Many of these volunteer hours have been devoted to Christ Child. In choosing organizations and opportunities to serve, she has kept Mary Virginia Merrick’s words close to heart: “Nothing is ever too much to do for a child.” She is the 2026 recipient of the Mary Virginia Merrick Award for her service to Christ Child Omaha chapter.
Alongside her volunteer commitments, Barb built an ongoing career with Merril Lynch as as a Wealth Management Advisor and Certified Financial Planner. She especially values the opportunities this job gives her to develop and nurture lasting relationships and connections with her team and clients.
In 2026, Barb joined the National Christ Child Society Board where she will serve as Communications Committee Chair and as a member of the Finance/Planned Giving Committee. She looks forward to continuing Christ Child’s work throughout Nebraska, strengthening connections among State chapters, and supporting the Society’s mission through national leadership.
